- 0ffice of Inspection and Enforcement Region V 1450 Maria Lane, Suite 210 Walnut Creek, California 94596-5368 Attention: Mr. J. B. Martin, Regional Administrator
Dear Sir:
Subject:
Docket No. 50-361 Special Report San Onofre Nuclear Generatirg Station, Unit 2 Pursuant to Section 6.9.2 of Appendix A, Technical Specifications to Facility Operating License NPF-10 for San Onofre Unit 2, this submittal provides the required Special Report for inoperable radiation monitoring alarm instrumentation.
On October 12, 1904, at 0957, with Unit 2 in Mode 1 at 85% power, the Containment Purge Train 'B' Area Radiation Monitor 2RI-7857 was declared inoperable when it was found out of calibration due to instrument drift during its 31-day surveillance. Containment Purge Train 'A' Area Radiation Monitor 2RI-7856 had previously been declared inoperable on August-8, 1984, also due to instrument drift. 2RI-7856, located in Containment, had not yet been restored because, due to ALARA concerns, it was scheduled to be repaired during the upcoming outage.
Since neither 2RI-7856 or 2RI-7857 were restored to operable status within 72' hours,'in accordance with Limiting Condition for Operation (LCO) 3.3.S.1, Table 3.3-6, Action Statement 19, the pre planned alternate method of monitori.1g was initiated. 2RI-7856 was restored to operable status on October 26, 1984, during the outage which began October 20, 1984.
Isotopic calibration of 2RI-7857 is currently in progress.
