Atlanta, Georgia 30323

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNIT NO. 2 SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSE TO I.E. BULLETIN NO. 84-02 In our response to I.E. Bulletin No. 84-02, dated July 31, 1984, Serial No.

184,- Vepco committed to replace.the North Anna Unit No.

2 normally de-energized relays during the August, 1984 refueling outage if replacement parts were available.

The replacement HFA relays arrived on-site on October 23, 1984.

The relays were receipt inspected by the Quality Control Department and'placed on hold due to improper certification documents. This certification must be complete to ensure, that only qualified replacement parts are ' purchased for use in safety related systems.

With the Unit 2 outage nearing completion (expected startup date is October 28, 1984), it is not feasible to install the replacement parts and properly test them without having a substantial impact on the scheduled startup date.

We propose to. install the replacement relays during the next outage of sufficient duration on North Anna Unit No. 2.

Until these relays are replaced, we will continue to visually inspect the presently installed relays on a monthly basis as indicated in our July 31, 1984 letter.

Very truly yours, p W. L. Stewart cc:
