ACCEPTANCE REVIEW FOR WCAP-18461, COMMON Q PLATFORM AND COMPONENT INTERFACE MODULE SYSTEM ELIMINATION OF TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION SURVEILLANCE REQUIREMENTS AND SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION (EPID L-2020-TOP-0003)

Dear Mr. Harper:

By letter dated March 9, 2020 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML20070R087), Westinghouse Electric Company (Westinghouse) submitted for the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff review WCAP-18461-P and WCAP-18461-NP, Common Q Platform and Component Interface Module System Elimination of Technical Specification Surveillance Requirements. By letter dated April 13, 2020 (ADAMS Package Accession No. ML20105A405), Westinghouse provided supplemental information in response to areas identified by the NRC staff.

A copy of WCAP-18461-NP is available in at ADAMS Accession No. ML20070R094. A nonproprietary copy of the supplemental information is available at ADAMS Accession No. ML20105A407.

The NRC staff has performed an acceptance review of the WCAP-18461 and the supplemental information. We have found that the material presented is sufficiently complete enough to begin our review. In its letter, Westinghouse requested that the review of WCAP-18461 be conducted using the modified review process for topical reports. The NRC staff agrees that the modified review process can be applied to this evaluation. Therefore, no request for additional information will be issued. The NRC staff expects to issue its draft safety evaluation by September 11, 2020.

This schedule takes into consideration the NRCs current review priorities and available technical resources and may be subject to change. If modification to the date is deemed necessary, we will provide appropriate updates to this information.

The NRC staff estimates that the review will require approximately 1100 hours0.0127 days
0.306 hours
0.00182 weeks
4.1855e-4 months
, including project management and contractor effort. This estimate of hours includes the hours already expended on completing this acceptance review.

Z. Harper If you have questions regarding this matter, please contact Joseph J. Holonich at 301-415-7297 or via electronic mail at Joseph.Holonich@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/RA/
