Dear Mr. Crutchfield:

Subject:

Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station (0CNGS)

Docket No. 50-219 SEP Topic No. VI-7.C.1, Appendix K Electrical Instrumentation and Control Re-review On September 3, 1984 Mr. C. Grimes (Chief-NRC SEP Branch) contacted GPUN by telephone confirming that the NRC had received and reviewed our submittal (dated July 30,1984) regarding the subject matter. Mr. Grimes stated that the NRC staff is in agreement with the conclusion and the analysis contained in the submittal. The analysis concluded that in order to maintain the integrity of the power supply to the vital buses, the trip units of the feeder breakers for vital buses VMCC-1A2 and 1B2 should be replaced. However, Mr. Grimes emphasized that, contrary to the proposed schedule provided in our submittal, GPUN should not wait until the next refueling outage (cycle 11 outage) for the replacement. Mr.

Grimes requested that GPUN replace these trip units during a first unscheduled shutdown of the Oyster Creek plant after receiving them from the supplier.

In our subsequent phone conversation with Mr. Grimes, GPUN agreed to replace these trip units during the first unscheduled plant-shutdown of sufficient length (minimum of 5 days) to perform the installation and testing activities following the receipt of the trip units from our supplier. The anticipated lead time for these units is approximately 10 weeks.
