Dear. Sir:
A The NRC was notified of a potentially reportab!d deficiency in the referenced telephone conversation. At that time, it was estimated that a determination of reportability would be made within thirty'(30) days.
Due to the extensive investigation and evaluation required, an Interim Report is attached. It is now expected that this information will be finalized by October 26, 1984, at which time a cduplete report will be submitted.

PVNGS UNIT 1 I.
Potential Problem-Instrument leads removed from'the UGS have shown' splitting of the outer shielding. The splitting has exposed the ceramic insulation. In some areas, the insulation.has deteriorated.
II.
Approach To and Status Of Proposed Resolution Bechtel Engineering is: corresponding with Combustion Engineering (C-E) to determine reportability and the corrective. action.
C-E has forecast September 28,'1984 to provide their input.
III.
Projected Completion of Corrective Action and Submittal of the Final Report Evaluation of this condition and submittal of the Final Report.
