Limerick Generating Station, Units 1 & 2, Docket Nos. 50-352 & 50-353 Request for Exenption from 10CFR50, Appendix A, CDC 56
Dear Mr. Denton:
'Ihe Linerick Safety Draluation Report (NUREU-0951, Supplement 1) concludes that. the applicant's design of the containrent isolation provisions for the hydrogen recmbiners "... provided an adequate basis for justifying operation of Limerick Unit 1 through the first cycle.
Inplmentation of the staff position requiring the addition of an (additional) autmatic isolation valve in each of the hydrogen reatmbiner lines penetrating the contaiment should be acrupleted before startup after the first refueling outace."
The SER further states that this represents a justifiable ter:porary exemption frun 10CFR50, Appendix A, General Design Criterion 56.
'Ihe SER also states that "... the NFC staff finds the proposed deviation frm the requirements of SRP 6.2.4 (for the Drywell Chilled Water and Reactor Enclosure Cooling Water isolation valves) during the first ' cycle of operation is acceptable."
'Ihis deviation also represents a justifiable terporary exatption fran 10CFR50, Appendix A, General Design Criteria 56.
Based upon the foregoi:q it is requestc4 that, in accordance with Section 50.12 of the Ccrmission's regulations, ti.e general conclusions of the SER be confirmed by' the issuance of specific exatptions to the requirements of 10CFR50, Appendix A, General Design Criterion 56.
