Docket No. 50-285

Dear Mr. Martin:

Fort Calhoun Station Early Warning Siren System The Omaha Public Power District notified the NRC by letter dated December 31, 1981 that an Emergency Notification System (siren system) had been installed per NUREG-0654.

In November, 1983 the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) issued The Standard Guide for the Evaluation of Alert and Notification Systems for Nuclear Power Plants (FEMA 43). The District has re-evaluated the siren system in light of the provisions of FEMA 43.

The FEMA 43 review resulted in the need to add a siren to the existing system inside the city limits of Blair, Nebraska.

The purpose of this letter is to provide formal notification that the additional siren has been installed, tested and is now operational. This topic was discussed with Messrs J. B. Baird on November 3, 1984 and R. Hall on December 3, 1984.

The District has received and is in the process of reviewing the final design report

=

of the Early Warning Siren System for Fort Calhoun. The District expects to submit the final design report to the State of Nebraska and the State of Iowa by January 15, 1985. The final design report would then be sent to FEMA on February 1, 1985.

S}ncerely,

/
