Gentlemen:

In a letter to Niagara Mohawk datcd August 17, 1950, the St:.ff requested that Niagara Mohawk submit a Technical Specification o

Amendment for leak detection that would permit Nine Mile Point Unit 2 to confccm to the Staff's position on the leakage detection requt.rements of Generic Letter 88-01.

In response to the Staff's request of August 17, 1990, Niagara Mohawk committed by letter dated November 20, 1E90, to submit the Technical Specificacion Amendment by June 30, 2991.

In the summer of 1991, the Boiling Water Reactor Omers Group (BWROG) formed an Ai' Hoc Committen to develop a response to Generic Letter 88-01, including leakage detection requirements.

Pending.the outcome of this committee's work, on June 25, 1991 Niagara Mohawk delayed ~

itc submittal of the above Amendment.

The BWROG Ad Hoc Committee has completed its work on the leakage detection requirements.

The Committee made no recommendations
