DOCKET NO. 50-317 CALVERT CLIFFS. UNIT 1 September 14,1992 i

SUhth1ARY OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE Aucust 1992 The unit began the month in hiode 5.

Reactor Coolant System heat.up commenced August 6 and llot Standby (Mode 3) was entered on 4

August 7. Prc. criticality testing and various equipment repairs delayed criticality until 0500 on August 16. lew. power physics testing was then performed.

The unit wr.s paralleled to the grid at 2352 on August 18 and power was raised to 30% The unit was taken off the grid at 1457 on August 19 for Main Turbine overspeed testing.

The unit was re-paralle%d at 1710 and returned to 30% power (155 MWe). Nuclear instrument (NI) calibrations and Feed Regulating Valve repairs were performed as power was raised to 85% (700 i

MWe) between 1230 and 2300 on August 21.

The unit remained at 85Fc until 0340 on August 23 due i problems with Delta.T Power indication.

Power was raiscJ to 8SFc at 0715 on August 23.

i At 1145 on August 23. an expeditious shutdown of the unit was commencext due to a steam leak frorn 4

a cracked Main Steam Drain Th unit was removed from the grid at 1345 and the reactor was shutdown at 1425. Repairs were made to the drain line but the ut.it remained shutdown for another 3

day due to a leaking letdown relief valve.

l The reactor was taken critical at 2110 on August 27 and the generator was paralleled at 0740 the next

~

day. The unit reached 88Fc power (725 MWe) at 0140 on August 29 and remained there due to j

problems with of Delta T Power Channel 'C'.

Power was reduced to 65Fo (490 MWe) at 1351 on August 31 to repair the seal water piping to 11 Steam Generator Feed Pump.

l The unit ended the month at 65Fc (490 MWe).
