DPR-71 & DPR-62 CERTIFICATION OF COMPLIANCE TO 10CFR50.49, ENVIRONMENTAL QUALIFICATION OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT IMPORTANT TO SAFETY FOR NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS (GENERIC LETTER 84-24)
Dear Mr. Denton:
-Carolina Power & Light Company hereby reports on the status of compliance of Brunswick. Steam Electric Plant, Unit Nos. I and 2 with 10CFR50. 49. We are submitting this information in response to Generic Letter 84-24.
Due to late receipt of the Generic Letter, this letter is being submitted after the specified deadline with the verbal approval of the NRC Project Manager.
The Company certifies that:

An Environmental Qualification Program designed to satisfy the requirements of 10CFR50.49 is being implemented. Unless an unforeseeable situation develops, we do not plan to request an additional extension beyond the current schedule (the end of the

outage for Unit 2).

The program includes the safety-related electrical equipment locatea in a harsh environment which is relied upon to remain functional during and following design basi.s events to ensure the capability to shutdown the reactor and maintain it in a safe shutdown condition. The Company confirms its belief that this equipment has been qualified or that justifications for continued operation (JCOs) for each type of equipment have been submitted.

The Company also confirms its belief that othar equipment within the scope of the rule has been qualified or that JCOs for each type of equipment have been submitted. This does not include equipment associated with the Regulatory Guide 1.97 effort which is on a schedule identified to the NRC in our letter dated December 27, 1984.
'In addition, the Generic Letter requested that specific IE Bulletins and Information Notices, which identify environmental qualification problems, be considered by licensees. We have in place a mechanism for the review and evaluation of Bulletins and Information Notices. Our evaluation of Bulletins and Information Notices is not limited to those listed in the Generic Letter.
