Potential 10CPR Part 21 Defect in Titus Model 272 Grilles at Cle.nton Power Station (21-85-01)

Dear Mr. Keppler:

In Illinois Power Company's letter to Frank Jablonski, NRC Region III, (Ref. U-10021, 1606-L, dated January 17, 1983),

Illinois Power agreed to notify Region III of those 10CFR Part 21 defects that affect Clinton Power Station and that were previously reported to the Commission by vendors or contractors.

In accordance with this agreement, the following information is submitted:

Titus Products has notified the USNRC of a potential 10CFR21 defect (Internal tension wires used for adjustment of the blades will not remain in place when the blades are closed.) that exists in their Model 272 Grilles.

Titus Products is presently conducting tests to identify rework methods and procedures.

Upon completion they will schedule personnel to correct this deficiency.

Illinois Power is also conducting an evaluation of this condition and will assure that adequate corrective action is taken.

Documentation of this potential problem and the corrective action taken will be available for your review at our offices.
