RESPONSE TO INSPECTOR F0LLOWUP ITEMS 50-395/92-04-08 and 50-395/92-04-09 I.
RESTATEMENT OF INFPECTOR FOLLOWUP ITEM Inspector followup Item 395/92-04-08, Preventive Maintenance Inspectic,s for 7.2 kV Switchgear.
Insulated 7.2 kV bu: bars were nJt periodically inspected as eeCommended by the vendor-in General Electric Manual GEH-1802, Metal Clad Switchgear.
In the M.NTENANCE SECTION" of GEH-1802 it specifically stated that "The switchgear structure and connections should be given the following overall maintenance... Inspect the busses and connections carefully for evidence of overheating or weakening of the insulation".
II. SCE&G RESPONSE:
SCE&G is:in agreement that additional inspections, as recommended by thc vend 9r, would be beneficial. Guidance for inspections of the bus bar connections and insulation will be added to the procedure governing cleaning and inspection of electrical equipment. The individual 7.2 kV switchgear procedures are included in the Preventive Maintenance progran:. These procedure changes will be completed by 12/31/92.

RESTAlEMENT OF INSPECTOR FOLLOWUP ITEM Inspector Followup Item 395/92-04-09, Preventive Maintenance Trip Testing of Important DC Molded Case Circuit Breakers to Verify Their Settings.
Overcurrent trip testing was not performed on the important molded case circuit breakers used as feeders for the 125 VOC load center busses. Ti c concern is f. hat, in aging, lubricant in tl.e breakers will dry out or other degradation will occur and affect the trip calibration.
II. SCEaG-RESPONSE:
SCE&G is in agreement that overcurrent trip testing is important for the main feeder breakers on the 125 ydc load distribution centers, DPNIHA ano CPN1HG.
The procedure governing molded casc circuit breaker testing is being revised l
to accoanodate the overcurrent trip testing of molded ccse circuit breakers lL in DPN1HA and-DPN1HB. This procedure will be included in the Preventive l
Maintenance program.
The procedure change will be completed by 12/31/92.
