SUBJECT:
Peach Bot'om Atomic Power Station License Amen' ment Application dated October 1, 19
Dear Mr. Stolz:
This letter transmits retyped Technical Specification pagcc associated with an October 1, 1981, License Amendment Application and a clarification of the request to dcaignate the Suppreccion Chamber high level trip setpoint properly.
The retyped pages and clarification were requested by the NRC Peach Dottom Project Manager on December 14, 1984.
The October 1, 1981, Application requested many miscellaneous revisions to the Technical Specifications.
Attached are Technical Specification pages 69, 81, 81a and 86 that have been retyped at the Projects Manager's request to reflect changes on the same page as approved by Amendments incued subsequent to October 1, 1981.
The rotyped pagcc do-not present-
. additional revisions other than those previoucly submitted in the October 1, 1981, Application.
Rather, they reproacnt updated pagon by depicting the propoced revision in the context of the currently approved operating licenac.
The clarification refers to the proposed change on page 69 submitted in the October 1, 1981, Application.
The request would chango the actpoint designation for the Supproccion Chamber high level trip from "less than or equal to 5 inchen above normal water level" to "less than or equal to 5 inches above torus a
midpoint".
The NRC Project Manager requested additional l

information regarding the change in the actpoint value.

Mr. John F. Stolz February 4, 1985 Page 2 conversation; and at the Project Manager's request, this information is formally submitted as follows.
The original torus " normal level" was designed to be 15'-6" above the bottom of the torus.
The torus midpoint is also at this elevation.
The setpoint for transfering IIPCI suction is less than or equal to 15'-11" above the torus bottom.
In response to the Mark I dynamic load considerations, the normal level was lowered, as approved in License Amendment 41/40, issued May 11, 1978.
It was not the intent of the licensing activities in response to the Mark I torus concern to lower the high level trip setpoint.
IIowever, the revision in the normal level inadvertently had the effect of lowering the torus high level trip setpoint specification.
The October 1, 1981, Application does not request a change in either the now normal torus level established for Mark I dynamic load considerations, or the torus high level trip setpoint associated with the transfer of IIPCI suction.
The proposed change deals only with the reference for the trip setpoint to ensure that the trip remains at the originally intended level.
Specifying "less than or equal to 5 inches above torus midpoint" is identical to specifying less than or equal to 15'-11" above the torus bottom and maintains the cetpoint designation at its original level.
