USNRC - Who we are.

  • United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission

- Licenses and regulates the civilian use of radioactive materials to protect public health and safety, provide common defense and security, and protect the environment

- Consists primarily of scientists and engineers, with additional service and admin support

  • <3000 staff in five offices and other locations

- HQ in suburban DC, Region offices (PHL, ATL, ORD, DFW)

- Inspectors at all nuclear power plants and other facilities

  • >40% retirement eligible and increasing

- 3% under 30 years old

- 15% under 40 years old

- Technical experts primarily senior level staff 2

Eligibility

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Ability to pass a background check leading to a clearance
  • Pass mandatory pre-employment drug screening
  • GPA for NRAN- 2.95 or higher cumulative, or 3.5 in major
  • GPA for Temporary Summer Student Program

Hiring Processes

  • Summer interns

- USAJOBs application (ALL OFC-2019-0016) until 10/22

- Application review and (phone) interviews

- Selections in November, 2019

- Security checks and reporting in May/June 2020

- Graduating COOP students, grant recipients, veterans, and those with disabilities who can be placed noncompetitively

- Selections early 2020, reporting June 2020
