McGuire Nuclent Station Docket Nos. 50-369, -370 10 CFR Part 21 Notification

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

Pursuant to 10 CFR Part 21, and confirming a telephone call on December 21, 1984 with Virgil Brownlee, Duke Power Company hereby reports a component defect which could be a safety hazard:

(i) Name and address of the individual or individuals informing the Commission.

McGuire Nuclear Station Component: ASME Class 2, SA 194 2H, Hex Nuts, 1" Heat # - 33292 ID# - NDS (iii) Identification of the firm constructing the facility or supplying the basic component which fails to comply or contains a defect.

Supplier: Sure Loc Inc.

2302 Dunavant Street Charlotte, N. C. 28203 (iv) Nature of the defect or failure to comply and the safety hazard which is created or could be created by such defect or failure to comply.

December 20, 1984 (vi) In the case of a basic component which contains a defect or fails to comply, the number and location of all such components in use at, supplied for, or being supplied for one or more facilities or activities subject to the regulations in this part.

(vii) The corrective action which has been, is being, or will be taken; the name of the individual or organization responsible for the action; and the length of. time that has been or will ,

be taken to complete the action.

Notify supplier.

Determine distribution within Duke.

Replace as necessary.

Time taken to complete actions is unknown.

(viii) Any advice related to the defect or failure to comply about the facility, activity, or basic component that has been, is being, or will be given to purchasers or licensees.

No advice will be given to purchaser or licensees. Duke will advise supplier of defective material.
