Gentlemen:
A final report on the 1988 guide rail failures of the two Main Steam Isolation i
Valves (MSIVs) was issued to the NRC on June 23,1988,_ per Louisiana Power &
Light-(LP&L) letter no. -W3A88-0065. The report describes design enhancements and corrective actions which were implemented to provide assurance that the MSIV guide rails would not be subjected to the failure mechanisms documented in i
. the report. In addition, LP&L stated that Waterford 3 would perform inspections -
q i-on these valves during future outages utilizing a fiber optic camera and recorder.
The camera inspections were performed during the third refueling outage and:..
deficiencies noted were corrected prior to start-up. - The MSIVs were inspected 3
again during the fourth refueling outageand no_ problems requiring corrective'

actions were detected.
Based upon these results,4Waterford 3 intends to continue MSIV inspections on an.
