Dear Mr. Denton:

This letter provides additional information regarding the Detailed Control Room Design Review for the SNUPPS plants - Callaway Plant Unit No.1 and Wolf Creek Generating Station Unit No.1.

Reference 1 transmitted the SNUPPS procedure for performing a control room task analysis which is applicable to both SNUPPS plants. The task analysis will be perfonned using docmentation from the Wolf Creek plant. The SNUPPS ta.k analysis and Wolf Creek operating procedure setpoints, which will be used as input to the task analysis, are based on guidance from revision 1 of the Westinghouse Emergency Response Guidelines (ERGS). The Callaway Plant procedures will be upgraded to revision 1 of the ERGS in the near future. The methodology described above was discussed with the NRC staff reviewer on 09/24/84.

Reference 2 transmitted the Summary Report for SNUPPS and the following clarifications are made:

o Page 1-9 of Section 1.2 " Management and Staffing" is revised to clarify our commitment for ensuring all future control room modifications proposed will undergo a haan factors review prior to implementation. The revised page 1-9 is attached.

o Table 1.2.1 "DCRDR Project Team Personnel and Experience": Dr.

J.0. Cermak has replaced Mr. F. Schwoerer as " Project Manager" for the SNUPPS DCRDR.

Page Two In addition, the SNUPPS original response to the NRC's human factors review of the Control Room (reference 3) stated that two annunciators, SI and CSAS, would be amber colored to reflect their importance. Since that time the SI annunciator has been deleted because there are already four annunciators in the firstout reactor trip section that more specifically identify cause and provide information on SI actuation. The priority of these four annunciators has been established consistent with their impor-tance as described in reference 3.

Very truly yours, cholas A. Petric DJK/dck/13a13 Attachment cc:

i Attachment to SLNRC 84-134 1.2 Management and Staffing, continued The manner in'which the members of the DCRDR Team participated in the various tasks of the DCRDR is summarized.in Table 1.2.2.

The HFPRG was established -a-s a standing review group that will review all proposed control room modifications prior to implementation until e

each unit has completed fuel load. Subsequent to fuel load, the utility will internally perform a human factors review of proposed control room modifications prior to implenentation and advise the other utility of the modification and outcome of the review.
