December 3, 1984 Mr. Ray R. Jenkins '

Piedmont Regional Office -

State Water Control Board P. O. Box 6745 Richmond, Virginia 23230 Surry Power Station - NPDES Pennit Exceptions

Dear tir. Jenkins:

This confirms the NPDES permit exceptions at our Surry Power Station that were previously reported to you. These exceptions involve Outfall 008, the sewage treatment plant.

On November 30, 1984, the average value of total suspended solids (TSS) was reported as 38.7 mg/1. This exceeded our limit of 30 mg/1. On December 3, 1984, the average value of B005 was reported as 58.4 mg/1.

This also exceeded a limit of 30 mg/1. Both values were calculated averages for the month of November.

As indicated in previous correspondence, the sewage treatment plant is in a recovery phase following problems due to increased hydraulic load and introduction of foreign substances. Corrective actions were described in earlier correspondence. Since we have been observing improvement, albeit slow, of the effluent from this facility, no further corrective action is planned at this time.

Should you have any further questions regarding this matter, please let us know.

Very truly yours, John A. Taylor, h.D.
