SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE The Virgil C. Summer Nuclear Station, Unit No.1, was shut down for refueling for the entire month of October 1984.

On October 10, a Notification of Unusual Event was declared due to the possible contamination of an injured health physics technician who was transported to an offsite medical facility.

On October 18, the Plant experienced an Alert condition due to the loss of the Residual Heat Removal (RHR) System.. RNR was lost for 25 minutes due to the closure of an RHR pump suction valve. The suction' valve cycled closed as a result of power being inadvertently interrupted to a Reactor Coolant System (RCS) wide range pressure instrument which provides a high pressure interlock for the valve. During this time, RCS temperature increased from 110*F.to approximately 130*F. Steam generators were available for decay. heat removal during this transient.

On October 31, 1984, the Plant was in Mode 5 preparing for core offloading.
