Dear Mr. Denton:

By letter dated October 9,1984, Duke Power Company addressed the various outstanding items contained in the Staff's SER on the Catawba Unit 1. TDI diesel generators, which was transmitted by T. M. Novak's letter of August 14, 1984.

Item 6 of the October 9,1984 letter discussed the planned main-tenance and surveillance (M/S) program.

Included in this discussion were specific proposed change in the M/S program which we felt were responsive to the PNL/NRC Staff comments. We would like to reiterate that is our Mntent to incorporate the PNL comments, as modified and amplified by the SER, into the M/S program for the Catawba Unit 1 diesel generators.

Very truly yours, g
