Catawba Nuclear Station, Unit 1 Docket No. 50-413 Special. Report .l Vibration and Loose Parts Monitoring System i i On January 11,1996, Unit 1 Loose Parts Monitoring System (LPMS) Channel l 21 (S/G ID Manway) was declared inoperable due to spurious, unexplainable ~ electronic bursts. This was discovered during routine surveillance by Engineering personnel. i The alarming capability of Channel 21 was disabled and the channel was } I entered in Technical Specification Action ' Item Logbook (#C1-95-01807) as inoperable. Work Request 96003609 has been initiated to pursue corrective l action. Problem Investigntion Process (PIP) 1-C-96-0082 is the tracking j ' document for this failure. LPMS Channels 20 (S/G 3D Secondary) and 22 (S/G 1D Ilot Leg) are operable and provide coverage for the S/G ID collection region. Since this channel has been inoperable for 30 days, this information is submitted pursuant - Selected Licensee Commitment 16.7-4 and Technical Specification 6.9.2. Very truly yours, l W. R.
