Dear Sir:

We filed, in Reference (g), an Interim 10CFR50.55(e) Report regarding cracked capstan springs in Pacific Scientific mechanical shock arresters. In that report we indicated that this item was reportable under 10CFR50.55(e),

and we informed you of our corrective action plan to resolve this deficiency.

United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Attention: Mr. Richard W. Starostecki Page 2 replaced with new, properly-manufactured springs in all forty-eight shock arresters that are either the PSA-1 or PSA-3 model types. The tangs of the new springs were formed prior to age hardening, thereby preventing hydrogen

! cracking occurring during plating of the springs. The new springs do not i exhibit any micro cracks. All forty-eight shock arresters were performance tested af ter being replaced with new springs.

This letter is considered to be the final report on this item.
