Final 10CFR50.55(e) Report; ASME Class II Instrument Valve Manifold Body Indications

Dear Sir:

In Reference (c), we filed an Interim 10CFR50.55(e) Report regarding linear indications found on ASME Class II instrument valve manifold bodies.

In that report we informed you that two manifolds, exhibiting linear indications, were sent to Imperial Clevite for material investigation and that the reportability of this matter would be based on the results of that investigation.

Imperial Clevite, under the technical direction of United Engineers, has completed their material investigation of the subject manifolds. They have concluded that the discontinuities are shallow surface imperfections which were present in the stock material used to machine the manifolds. The interior of the material was found to be sound and free of injurious defects.

The integrity of the manifold bodies was not affected and their intended safety function was not compromised.

Imperial Clevite has committed to upgrading their manufacturing Quality Assurance to prevent any future valve bodies from exhibiting surface discontinuities.
