Interim Report - DER 85-3 A 50.55(e) Potentially Reportable Deficiency Relating To Seismic Gap In Containment File: 85-019-026; D.4.33.2
Reference:
Telephone Conversation between P. Narbut and T. Bradish on February 8, 1985
Dear Sir:
The NRC was notified of a potentially reportable deficiency in the ref-erenced telephone conversation. At that time, it was estimated that a determination of reportability would be made within thirty (30) days.
Due to the extensive investigation and evaluation required, an Interim Report is attached.
It is now expected that this information will be finalized by April 15, 1985, at which time a complete report will be submitted.
Very truly yours, Ez%TJ/sc E. E. Vaa Brunt, Jr.

. INTERIM REPORT - DER 85-3
PVNGS UNIT 2 I.
Potential Problem The minimum gap requirement of Drawing 13-CZS-205 provides seismic separation to permit deflections between the internal structure or its attachments and the containment shell or its' attachments with-out interferences during a seismic event.
Interferences may lead to possible damage to safety-related systems and possibly prevent their proper functioning required to mitigate the effects of a design basis event.
During.the walkdown conducted under SCIP 635.0, 189 items which do not comply with the criteria (Block 8) were identified.'
An engineering evaluation is required to assess the impact of these nonconformances on the safety of the plant.
II.
Approach To and Status Of Proposed Resolution Bechtel Engineering is currently studying this problem to determine reportability and technical justification for corrective action.
III. Projected Completion of Corrective Action and Submittal of the Final Report The complete evaluation and final report are forecast to be completed by April 15, 1985.
