Subject:

DOCKET 50-508 NUCLEAR PROJECT N0. 3 P0TENTIAL 10 CFR 50.55(e) DEFICIENCY REACTOR COOLANT PUMP DEFICIENCIES D/N #51

Reference:

G03-84-367, A. D. Kohler to T. W. Bishop, same subject, dated June 4, 1984.

On September 27, 1983, the Supply System notified your office of a potential 10 CFR 50.55 (e) deficiency concerning the subject condition.

The referenced letter subsequently provided a status of corrective actions and noted that a final report would be submitted by November 1984.

To-date, Ebasco has not received adequate information from Combustion Engineering (CE) to fully address the deficiencies and corrective actions. CE is in the process of developing a specific repair program for deficiencies found in the WNP-3 reactor coolant pumps on the basis of the fix and test experience for identical reactor coolant pumps at Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Stations 1 and 2. Upon receipt of the problem resolution from CE (i.e., specific repair program) and considering available Supply System resources, a final report will be provided to your office.
