Process question for today - will NRC panelists be answering questions today, or just taking questions and comment without answering?

March 30, 2020 11:37 AM from Park Overall to host (privately):
Since TN is already drowning in rads, how do you propose to protect us? We have found HEU 235,6 & 9 and Pu in our drinking water. And you wish to add more in Rogersville, TN? Why are you doing this?
March 30, 2020 11:41 AM from Joe Power to host (privately):
Hello, I wanted to let you know that the person calling from 609-218-8138 will submit her questions through the website, not over the phone. Thank you.
March 30, 2020 11:50 AM from Marlayna Doell to Park Overall (privately):
Thanks Park. I will add this to our list of comments/considerations for moving forward with this topic.
March 30, 2020 11:50 AM from Marlayna Doell to Joe Power (privately):
Thanks Joe. We will look for those comments.
March 30, 2020 11:52 AM from Larry Camper to host (privately):
Has the NRC staff evaluated whether or not it would be more effective to change the language in 20.2001 rather than clarifying guidance? Given that an interpretive rule is not legally binding etc. Note that 20.2002 mentions not otherwise authorized. So is it clear that disposal in an exempted facility would be authorized via a guidance language change?
March 30, 2020 11:53 AM from Marlayna Doell to Larry Camper (privately):
Hi Larry. This is a good question. I will add it to our list of considerations!
March 30, 2020 11:55 AM from Larry Camper to host (privately):
The basis for the 25 millirem approach needs more clarification for its basis. The criteria in 61.41 contains three components per ICRP 2. Further, the dose standard in 20.1301 is quite different (higher) and the 20.2002 case-by-case authorizations have been "a few millirem".
Clarification of basis should serve to enhance clarity and public confidence.
March 30, 2020 11:57 AM from Marlayna Doell to Larry Camper (privately):
Also a good comment we will add to the list.
March 30, 2020 11:58 AM from Larry Camper to host (privately):
Will 20.2002 authorizations really continue to be needed if 20.2001 is interpreted to include disposal in an exempt facility as authorized?
March 30, 2020 12:17 PM from Joe Weismann to all panelists:
It's very important for the NRC to reiterate (again) that this IR does not represent clearance, below regulator concern, or any other UNRESTRICTED release of radioactive material. A majority of the negative comments on the webinar today appear to believe that this will allow all 3
landfills to receive VLLW. I urge NRC to reinforce that any landfill who wishes to be considered an "Authorized User" must be approved, both from NRC and from their state regulators and stakeholders.
March 30, 2020 12:38 PM from Lynn Anderson to host (privately):
I see now: From day one, the Trump administration has looked for ways to prop up money-losing nuclear power plants, which face increasing competition from cheap natural gas and renewable energy sources.
At first, the main effort was a direct bailout Energy Secretary Rick Perrys failed plan to subsidize nuclear (and coal) power plants by raising consumer energy bills.
Now the administration has started cutting corners in nuclear safety and oversight. Trump appointees, who are a majority at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), are allowing the nuclear industry to avoid costly upgrades to plants that are not designed to withstand current flood risk. STOP REPRESENTING DANGEROUS INDUSTRY!
March 30, 2020 12:55 PM from Marlayna Doell to all participants:
Signing off! Thank you all for joining us today!
