NRC Inspection During the Period of April 9-20, 1984 Violation 50-528/84-15-12 File: 84-019-026; D.4.33.2

Reference:

(1) Letter f rom E.E. Van Brunt to T.W. Bishop, dated July 10, 1984 One of the action items identified by the referenced letter as part of the subject Notice of Violation was to check the thread engagement of two hundred fif ty (250)

"Q" valves supplied by various vendors.

This inspection was not completed prior to the commitment date because the specifications were further revised to more definitively state the requirements for thread engagement.

(Refer to FCR 82, 404-P to 13-PH-204, FCR 82,405-P to 13-FM-205, and FCR 82,402-M to 13-MM-510 for the revised criteria).

This action item was com-pleted prior to August 27, 1984.

Additionally, because of the revisions to the specifications, the following action items were identified:

1) Sessions with the previously selected BPC Field Eng maers and Quality Control Engineers were conducted to ensure that the revised definition of thread engagement conforms to the past practices as discussed in the initial sessions. This action was completed by August 24, 1984.
2) An additional BPC Quality Talk session will be initiated to explain the revised thread engagement criteria.
