Interim 10CFR50.55(e) Report: Control Circuit Cable Lengths

Dear Sir:

On July 31, 1984, we reported a potential 10CFR50.55(e) deficiency

[ Reference (b)] regarding control circuit cable lengths.

It has been determined that this item is reportable under 10CFR50.55(e).

The following information is filed pursuant to the interim reporting provision of 10CFR50.55(e)(3).

Description of Deficiency It appears that during the design process of control circuits for various devices sich as solenoids, relays, etc. , portions of the circuit were not considered in all cases when evaluating the total circuit length for voltage drop calculations. Although this deficiency has been verified in a number of circuits, the extent a'nd the corrective action (s) of the deficiency is still under evaluation.

Safety Implications Inadequate voltage at the terminal of svme devices (relay coils, solenoids, etc.) due to increased voltage drop may prevent the device from performing its intended safety function.
