Purpose The purpose of this meeting is to discuss proposed License Amendment for Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant (PINGP) Units 1 and 2 to adopt TSTF-569, Response Time Testing, which will include two variations from TSTF-569.

3

Background

  • TSTF-569 permits licensees, in lieu of measurement, to verify the Reactor Trip System (RTS) and Engineered Safety Feature Actuation System (ESFAS) response times of certain component types by using the methodology contained in TSTF-569, Attachment 1.
  • TSTF-569 modifies language added by TSTF-111, which added a sentence to the standard TS definitions of RTS and ESFAS Response Time Testing to allow alternatives to measuring response times for certain components.

4

Proposed Changes TSTF-569 mark up NSPM Proposed mark up 5

TSTF-569 Variations

1. The modified definition of ESFAS Response Time will not be included in the LAR. PINGP TS do not currently include this definition.
2. The revised definition of RTS Response Time will continue to exclude the channel sensor from response time testing and the response time will continue to be based on the opening of the reactor trip breaker and not the loss of stationary gripper coil voltage consistent with current PINGP TS.

6

Schedule NSPM plans to submit the TSTF-569 LAR by June 1, 2020, and request NRC approval 12 months from acceptance.
