pocasaa roomection (704) 073-4608 September 28, 1984 Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C. 20555 Attention: E. G. Adensam Chief Licensing Branch No. 4

Subject:

McGuire Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-369, 50-370

Dear Mr. Denton:

Attached are proposed license amendments to Facility Operating Licenses NPF-9 and NPF-17 for McGuire Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2, respectively.

The proposed amendments would change the surveillance requirements in the Technical Specitications relating to steam generator blowdown valves (Table 3.6-2). A modification is planned which will delete these valves, therefore surveillance will no longer be required. to this letter contains the proposed Techn' si Specification changes, and Attachment 2 provides the justification an. safety analysis to support the proposed changes. Attachment 3 provides an analysis, pursuant to 10CFR50.91, which concludes that the proposed amendments do not involve a significant hazards considaration.

NRC approval of this proposed change is requested by January 11. 1985 in order that the necessary station modifications can be implemented during the next refueling outages for Units 1 and 2 which are currently scheduled for early 1985.

This regtest involves one application for amendment to the McGuire Technical Specifications. Accordingly, pursuant to 10CFR170.21 a check for $150.00 is enclosed.
