' Channel 17 (S/G 2C Manway) was declared inoperable.
No signal was present as evidenced by the background RMS signal being essentially zero.
This indicates a probable dead preamp.
This channel was logged as Item #C2-96-0016 in the Technical Specification Action Item Log (TSAIL).
Work request 96000226 was generated to investigate and repair this channel during an outage of sufficient duration.
Problem Investigation Process (PIP)2-C96-0004 is the tracking document for this failure. Two other' channels are operable and providing coverage against loose parts.
The above information is submitted pursuant Catawba Nuclear Station Selected Licensee Commitment Section 16.7-4 and Technical Specification 6.9.2.,
since this channel could not be restored to operable within 30 days.
