NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

OF MONTHLY OPERATING EXPERIENCE - JULY, 1984 July 1 The station was in operational mode I with reactor power a throughL nominal 100%. The reactor coolant system was at normal operating July 3 temperature and pressure.

July-4 The station was operating at 100% reactor power. At 2130~

hcurs, valve TV-CC-110D, containment recirculation cooling coils outlet containment inside isolation valve, failed to the closed position. The "C" chiller unit tripped and the resultant loss of chilled water flow to the containment air recirculation fans caused the temperature in containment to rise above-the maximum allowable limit of 105 F. A reduction

, in station load was begun _at 2240 hours0.0259 days
0.622 hours
0.0037 weeks
8.5232e-4 months
.

July 5 Station load reduction was in progress. Reactor power was 53% of 0000 hours0 days
0 hours
0 weeks
0 months
. The main unit generator output breakers were opened at 0118 hours0.00137 days
0.0328 hours
1.951058e-4 weeks
4.4899e-5 months
. The station went into hot standy at 0136 hours0.00157 days
0.0378 hours
2.248677e-4 weeks
5.1748e-5 months
.

A' crew entered containment at 0318 hours0.00368 days
0.0883 hours
5.257936e-4 weeks
1.20999e-4 months
to troubleshoot the failed valve. The problem was found to be a torn diaphragm in the operator.

July 6 The station was off line while v'alve TV-CC-110D was being repaired. At 0206 hours0.00238 days
0.0572 hours
3.406085e-4 weeks
7.8383e-5 months
, the station went into hot shutdown to comply with the station's technical specifications and entered cold shutdown at 1053 hours0.0122 days
0.293 hours
0.00174 weeks
4.006665e-4 months
for the same reason.

Valve TV-CC-110D was declared operable at'2052 hours0.0238 days
0.57 hours
0.00339 weeks
7.80786e-4 months
. Containment temperature was 102.012*F at 2128 hours0.0246 days
0.591 hours
0.00352 weeks
8.09704e-4 months
.

July 7 Heatup of the reactor coolant system was begun in preparation for station startup.

The station went into hot standby at 1253 hours0.0145 days
0.348 hours
0.00207 weeks
4.767665e-4 months
.

July 8 Reactor startup was begun at 0128 hours0.00148 days
0.0356 hours
2.116402e-4 weeks
4.8704e-5 months
. The reactor was taken critical at 0157 hours0.00182 days
0.0436 hours
2.595899e-4 weeks
5.97385e-5 months
and the main unit generator was synched to the grid at 0529 hours0.00612 days
0.147 hours
8.746693e-4 weeks
2.012845e-4 months
. After a one-half hour control rod soak at 5% reactor power, power was increased to 25% and held for delta flux considerations. The reactor power increase was resumed at 0636 hours0.00736 days
0.177 hours
0.00105 weeks
2.41998e-4 months
. The station reached 100% reactor power at 1730 1.ours.

July 9 The station operated at a nominal 100% reactor power. The through reactor coolant system was at normal operating temperature July 31 and pressure.
