Subject:

Catawba Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-413 and 50-414 Supplement ta Amendment Request Standby Nuclear Service Watcr Pond Gentlemen: 1 Hal Tucker's letter dated June 7,1990 requested an amendment to the required temperature and monitoring depth (Technical Specification 3.7.5.b) for the Catawba Nuclear Service Water Pond. The analysis performed by Duke Power to support this amendment did not account for a 2.4*F discrepancy between the NRC analysis (SER Supplements 1 and 2 Section 2.4.4.2) and the Duke Power Analysis during licensing of Catawba. Duke Power has revised both the SNSWP analysis and the maximum allowable temperature of the -

SNSWP to account for the 2.4*F discrepancy. The monitoring depth requested in the original submittal has also been revised to ensure that the needed volume of water is available at, or below 91.5'F.

Attached is the revised TS and Bases markups, and a markup of the Technical Justification and No Significant Hazards Analysis to support the revised SNSWP temperature and  ;

monitoring depth. The conclusions in the June 7,1990 submittal remain valid. This proposed amendment involves no significant . -tards consideration.

Pursuant to 10 CFR 50.91(b)(1) the appropriate South Carolina official is being provided a copy of this amendment request.

Very truly yours,
