Caused by Ac & Dc Solenoid Valves Deenergized|letter dated March 23,1984]] (Serial No.. NLS-84-130), Carolina Power & Ligh't Company (CP&L) responded to IE Bulletin No. 83-07, "Apparently Fraudulent
. Products Sold by Ray Miller, Inc."; Supplement 1, dated Oct ober 26, 1983; and Supplement 2, dated December 9, 1983.
In this letter, CP&' committed to investigate Brown & Root procurement to determine if Ray hiller material was supplied indirectly-to Brunswick and report the results of this investigation by August 1, 1984.
DISCUSSION A listing, by vendor, of Brown & Root purchase orders and subcontractors was compiled. This listing was used to determine if Brown & Root purchased
. material f rom the Ray Miller customers listed in IEB 83-07. -The following three companies were identified as possible sources of apparently fraudulent material:
l 1.
Huntington Alloys, Inc., Huntington, W (Seven Purchase Orders) 2.
Richmond Engineering, Co., Richmond, VA (Four Purchase Orders)"
l 3.
R. G. Laurence Co., Tenafly, NJ (One Purchase Order)
Each purchase order to these companies was reviewed to determine if the specific materials in question were received at Brunswick, The following is a summary of this review.
,1.
Huntington Alloys purchased suspect pipe and tube, 1" in diameter or
-less, from Ray Miller. Brown & Root purchase orders to Huntington Alloys are for welding electrode;.no tube or pipe of any size was purchased.

'2.
_ Richmond Engineering purchased. suspect fittings above 2" up to and
_ including'4" from Ray Miller. Brown & Root purchased fabricated pipe spools and miscellaneous fittings (all carbon steel) for'the circulating water system from. Richmond Engineering. The material was
- received.by..mid-1972; no stainless steel was purchased, therefore the suspect material sold to Richmond Engineering was not received at
~
Brunswick.
3.
R. G. Laurence purchased fittings'1" in diameter or less, fittings greater than 2" in diameter, and pipe greater than 4" in diameter from-
-Ray Hiller. Brown -& Root purchased two solenoid valves (1/2") with 3" pipe nipples from R. G. Laurence. 'The construction of these items
.does,not. include any of the suspect materials.
CONCLUSION-A totalIof twelve Brown & Root purchase orders were issued to three companies listed in IEB 83-07. A review of procurement documents for the twelve purchase orders has determined that no suspect-material has been received at Brunswick.
