(a)

Letter from Mr. R. E. Denton (BGE) to NRC Document Control Desk, dated August 18,1995," Integrated Plant Assessment Methodology" On August 17, 1995, Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE) met with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to discuss license renewal activities for 1996. During the meeting, BGE described the status of the License Renewal Project and provided an oveniew of the Integrated Plant Assessment (IPA) i Methodology. When BGE noted that a number of IPA System and Commodity Reports would be submitted in 1996, the NRC requested that BGE provide a schedule for submitting them. These reports contain the results of performing the IPA Methodology (Reference a) and include the information that would be part of a License Renewal Application, if one is submitted. Contingent on your approval of the methodology by January 1996, BGE proposes to submit, for approval, a number of IPA System and Commodity Reports during 1996. Currently, we have grouped plant systems such that there will be 26 reports.

Baltimore Gas and Electric Company is participating as a demonstration plant under the Nuclear Energy Institute's License Renewal Demonstration Program. The program is designed to proside direct input into the industry's effort to help develop an industry guide for implementing 10 CFR Part 54. Our draft j

schedule (attached) for submitting the reports has been, and will continue to be, coordinated with the l

industry's demonstration program.

On August 18, 1995, BGE submitted Reference (a). During subsequent conversations with the NRC's License Renewal staff, they commented that BGE should clarify the scope of the review requested for Reference (a). Therefore, we request that the NRC review and approve Reference (a) as an acceptable method for meeting the requirements of 10 CFR Part 54. We no longer request that the NRC limit their 4

Should you have further questions regarding this matter, we will be pleased to discuss them with you.

Very truly yours, l
