ULNRC-886 DOCKET NUMBER 50-483 CALLAWAY PLANT, UNIT 1 CALLAWAY LICENSE ISSUES The purpose of this. letter is to address six items from
--Attachment 1 to the Callaway Operating License, NFP-25.
These items resulted from a Region III inspection concerning Appendix R.
Discussions concerning these items have taken place with the Callaway Resident Inspector (Mr. B. Little).
Except for the installation of emergency lights and communications equipment as noted in-the discussions below for items G.1 and G.2, we believe these items are complete.
We will notify the Resident
-Inspector when these have been installed.

identified four areas for which additional emergency lighting will be provided.
Eight-hour battery pack units I
will provide additional light in the areas of motor control centers; NG01B, NG02A, NG02B, and NG04C.
These units l
will be installed and operable prior to exceeding 5% power.

OL Attachment 1 Item No.4 Discussion G.2 Communications to Support Shutdown from Outside the Control Room The only area where additional communications equipment is needed to support shutdown from outside the Control Room is in the Auxiliary Shutdown Panel Room.
A Gai-Tronics handset with speakers and'a telephone will be added prior to exceeding 5% power.
G.3 Procedure to Isolate Spurious PORV Actuation During a Control Room Fire Procedure OTO-ZZ-00001, Revision 3 specifies local closing of pressurizer Power Operated Relief Valve (PORV) block valves in the event of spurious PORV actuation during a Control Room fire.
This is accomplished in Attachment #1 to the procedure,' Steps 3.1 and 3.2.
G.4 Procedures for On-Shift-Staffing Levels APA-ZZ-00743, Revisio'n 5, Section 2.2 (Fire Brigade) specifies the Fire Brigade to consist'of:
operating Supervisor, 2 Equipment Operators and 2 Rad-Chem Helpers. -APA-ZZ-00010, Revision 3, Section 6.1 (Minimum ~ Shift' Compliment)

specifies the Operations Department-manning for Modes 1-6 to consist of:
1 Shift Supervisor, 1 Operating

APA-ZZ-00032, Revision 3. requires 2 Rad Chem Helpers trained in fire protection be on' shift.

Discussion G.5 Procedure for Manual Loading of Diesel Generator Procedure OTO-ZZ-00001, Revision 3,,
Step 1.3 describes the manual loading of the diesel generators, if required during a Control Room fire.
G.6 Procedure for Verifying DG Fuel Oil During Control Room Fire Procedure OTO-ZZ-00001, Revision 3,,
Steps 5.1 and 5.2 specify monitoring the diesel generator day tanks levels and manually starting the transfer pumps from the MCC breakers if required during a Control Room fire.
