. License No. NPF-3 Serial No. 1089 October 10. 1984 Mr. Darrell G. Eisenhut, Director Division of Licensing Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission
-Washington, D.C.

Dear Mr. Eisenhut:
This 1etter is being submitted in accordance with 10CFR50.49(g) to request
~
an extension of the deadline date for Environmental Qualification of Electrical Equipment (EQ). Toledo Edison has identified equipment that
~
may not be. replaced in time to meet the requirements of the rule.
Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station Unit No. 1 is now in its second refueling outage.after March 31, 1982 and, therefore, must have equipment qualified by the end of this outage.
In accordance with the EQ rule, Toledo Edison (TED) has reviewed its electrical equipment and established a list of equipment that was qualified and what was to be qualified or replaced. During this review we identified the two' High Pressure Injection (HPI) Lube Oil Pump (AC) Motors as requiring
' qualification or replacement. A review of our records and checking with the vendor established that the documented evidence of qualification is
' inadequate. TED'then checked with other utilities and vendors and identified only one source for a qualified fractional horse power AC motor. The
-supplier indicated to us that lead time for the HPI Lube Oil Pump Motor was eight'to ten weeks. With that short time frame for procurement we
.placed it into our normal process for outage procurement of equipment.
When the purchase order was issued for the HPI Lube Oil Pump Motors, TED was notified that.the delivery time was extended to 26 weeks. That would place it beyond the end of the current refueling outage. TED sent
' representatives to the supplier to see if anything could be done to
. expedite the delivery date. The delivery date was improved to mid to late December which coincides with the end of our refueling outage.
