Centlemen:
In accordance with our obligation to apprise the Board of matters which may bear on issues before it, this will advise that Applicants have concluded that certain fire dampers at Comanche Peak are installed at variance with the Underwriters Laboratories ("UL") test configuration. This variance was detected by Applicants during normal testing of the dampers.
In view of E.
- the variance, the reliability of operation of these dampers, as installed, is not supported by UL tests. Applicants presently envisage that rework or minor modifications are necessary for approximately 33 dampers. These facts have been reported by Applicants to NRC Region IV pursuant to 10 C.F.R. Part'50.55(e), and to the NRC Staff's Comanche Peak Technical Review Team (T. A. Ippolito, Project Director).
