INTERIM REPORT - DER 84-40 POTENTIAL REPORTABLE DEFICIENCY ARIZONA PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANY (APS)
PVNGS UNIT 2 I.
Potential Problem The impeller assemblies for Auxiliary Feedwater pumps 2-M-AFA-P01 and 2-M-AFB-P01 were observed to be corroded. Analysis of the corrosion deposits show the presence of bacteria associated with
" Microbiological 1y Influenced Corrosion", or MIC. Examination of the pump case for;the most. corroded impeller assembly, 2-M-AFA-P01 j
shows corrosion and evidence of MIC. The extent of damage and the extent of MIC in the auxiliary feedwater system is presently unknown.
j II.
Approach To and Status of Proposed Resolution Examination by dye penetrant, grinding, and x-ray of the pump case and x-ray of nearby pipe welds shows no damage from MIC.
Bechtel engineering is currently corresponding with the vendor on this problem to determine reportability and technical justification for corrective action.
III. Projected Completion of Corrective Action and Submittal of the Final f
Report i
Evaluation of this condition and submittal of the Final Report is Forecast to be completed by September 21, 1984.
