Subject:

Beaver Valley Power Station, Unit No.1 Docket No. 50-334, License No. DPR-66 Supplemental Submittal Regarding Neutron Flux Instrumentation (TAC No. M81201)

Reference:

Duquesne Light Company letter dated March 1,1995, responding to NRC's Request for Additional Information dated November 29,1994.

As a result of NRC staff review of information submitted in the above reference, a conference call was held between Duquesne Light Company (DLC) and NRC staff on June 30,1995. During that call, the NRC staff discussed additional infonnation needed to complete their review and to reach closure on the qualification of neutron flux instrumentation.

Accordingly, DLC provides the following information regarding l

Beaver Valley Unit No. I which we believe satisfies the remaining staff concerns regarding this issue:

l In the event of an accident that leads to an adverse environment inside l

containment that is postulated to render the neutron flux instrumentation inoperable, existing Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs) direct the operator to assure that boric acid safety injection into the reactor coolant system is occuning.

Should you or your staff have any questions regarding this matter, please contact Mr.

Nelson Tonet at (412) 393-5210.

Sincerely, 1
