Dear Sir:
In reference Ic+.ters 1 and 2, PECO Energy committed to submitting summary reports, for Generic Letter (GL) 87-02, Supplerrent 1, " Verification of Seismic Adequacy of Mechanical and Electrical Equipment in Operating Reactors, Unresolved Safety issue (USI) A-46," and GL 88-20, Supplement 4, " Individual Plant Examination'of External i
Events (IPEEE) for Severe Accident Vulnerabilities," on November 20, '.995. This date was originally proposed to allow PECO Energy to coordinate its IPcEE and USl A-46 seismic walkdown activities for Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station (PBAPS).

' PECO'knergy is currently resoMng items identified during walkdowns that did not meet the screening guidelines provided in Generic Implementation Procedure, Revision 2. PECO Energy personnel have been instrumental in both identifying and dispositioning these items. This effort, which is consistent with a recommendation in GL 88-20, has allowed PECO Energy to retain the krowledge gained in-house while.
reducing l's dependency on outside contractors.
Beccuse the walkdowns produced a larger than anticipated number of items, and while PECO Energy personnel have made considerable progress toward their
- disposition, additional time will be required to complete this effort.
Therefore, PECO Energy proposes to extend the November 20,1995, submittal date for both the.lPEEE and USl A-46 summary reports to May 31,1996.
This schedut, extension was discussed briefly with the PBAPS NRC Project Manager on September 18,1995. The proposed date is dependent on our continued use of the reduced-scope seismic margin assessment (SMA) method for the seismic events portion of the IPEEE. (reference 3).
This requested extension for st6mittal of the IPEEE does not impact PECO Energy's schedule for overall resolutina of issues associated with GL 92-08, "Thermo-Lag 330-1 Fire Barriers."
If you have any questions regard!ng this schedule extension, please contact us.
Sincerely, l
