Dear Mr. Johnson:
The purpose of this letter is to provide a final report pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e) concerning the installation of three-hour rated (Class A) hollow metal fire door frames at Wolf Creek Generating Station.
This matter was initially reported to Mr. William Johnson of the

Nuclear Regulation Commission, Region IV, by Mr. Otto Maynard oi Kansas
';as and Electric Company (KG&E) on May 25, 1984.
During a routine inspection of smoke detectors, a damaged seal was discovered between a Class A fire door frame and a three-hour rated fire wall. Further investig Lion revealed that the frame was sealed to the wall with two beads of combustible caulking (Peacoa Unicrylic 60 or GC9).
It was later determined that the same caulking had been used on other Class A fire doors. The Architect / Engineer evaluated this concern and determined that this caulking did not represent a significant safety concern. However, KG&E has elected to replace the existing combustible caulking surrounding all Class A hollow metal fire door frames with an approved flame retardent adhesive sealant (Dow Corning RTV 96-081). This activity will be completed prior to fuel load.
