Nort.am ora.4rio.s Mr. James P. O'Reilly Serial No. 071B Regional Administrator N0/BCD/jmj /1LTRS-Region 11 Docket Nos. 5 3 33 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 50- 39 101 Marietta Street, Suite 2900 License Nos. NPF-4 Atlanta, Georgia 30303 NPF-7
Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
In our letter dated March 17, 1983 (Scrial No. 071), we responded to a notice of violation reported in IE Inspection Report 50-338/83-01 and 50-339/83-01.
In this response, we stated that our corrective actions would be based on the development of a Work Planning and Tracking System (WPTS) with an expected completion of Phase I during the first quarter of 1984.
Phase I of WPTS would. " provide as a minimum, inquiry into the computer's data base showing maintenance history for a specific system, component, or item."
In addition, an equipment failure analysis program was to be implemented three months later (expected completion during second quarter 1984).
These programs, in conjunction with information available f rom the Nuclear Plant Reliability Data System (NPRDS), would provide the basis for establishing a meaningful equipment failure analysis program.
Since our March 17, 1983 response, there has been significant progress made toward the completion of our commitment.
In particular, the software associated with Phase I of the WPTS system was implemented ahead of schednic in late December, 1983.
Also, the NPRDS cffort has been growing consistently as the data base widens and improves.
Currently, the procedures for an equipment failure analysis program have been drafted and are undergoing review. Required modifications to the WPTS software have been identified as a result of this program development.
These modifications will allow for an efficient method of identifying potential problem areas and will take approximately eight (8) weeks to implement.
In order that an equipment failure analysis program be implemented in an orderly fashion, we are revising our previous commitment date for establishing the program to July 31, 1984.
This additional time will allow for implementation of WPTS sof tware modifications as well as the administrative changes necessary to implement this new program..
Very eruly yours, 8406210534 840530
