Dear Mr. Little:

ULNRC-820 INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-483/82-21 Ref.:

1)

NRC letter dated August 26, 1983, Little to Schnell 2)

ULNRC-653, dated August 16, 1983 i

This reply is in response to Reference 1 which requested

'that we notify your office when the corrective actions taken in response to Item of Noncompliance 82-21-07 (and described in Reference 2) were completed.

The five remaining cables which were suspected of having exceeded the allowable sidewall. pressure have been tested per

--E-01013 (Q) and found' acceptable.

In regard to the cable vendor's test program, the final results have' yielded allowable sidewall pressure values similar to those which had been provided to us as a result of the interim test, and consequently have no impact on_the Callaway installation.

If you have any questions regarding this response or if additional _information is required, please.let me know.

Very truly.yours, l

... =

Donald F.

2.

Licensee Action on Previous Inspection Findings (Closed) Noncompliance (483/82-21-07):

It was previously identified that the tension exerted in pulling Class IE cable No. IALB01AA, apparently resulted in the maximum allowable sidewall pressure exceeding Bechtel's design specification.

In addition, tension limitations as a function of allowable sidewall pressure had been mis-calculated.

Subsequently, the licensee examined and evaluated the installation records of a total of 114 cables and determined that eleven 5KV cables and one 600V cable had apparently been overtensioned.

Bechtel provided guidelines for the disposition of cables whose training bend radius and/or sidewall pressure requirements that been violated. DC volatge Hi Pot tests were performed using a 36KV test voltage and documented. Results of the tests were evaluated and determined to be acceptable.
