752 Transmitters
Dear Mr. Johnson:
This letter provides an interim report on a potential 10CFR50.55(e) concerning internal shorts of Barton 752 Transmitters. This matter was initially reported by Mr. H.K. Chernoff of Kansas Gas and Elec-tric Company (KG&E) to Mr. William Johnson of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Region IV, on April 24, 1984.
Three ITT-Barton 752 Transmitters were found to be short circuiting internally. Initial investigation showed that lock washers used on
- the mounting screws for the sensor assembly were apparently making electrical contact with the Transmitter Circuit Board Assembly. This connection was short circuiting the transmitters and rendering them inoperable. KG&E and Westinghouse are pursuing a solution to this matter with ITT - Barton. Westinghouse Field Deficiency Reports (FDRs) and a KG&E Startup Field Report (SFR) have been written to document and resolve the existing condition.
The status of this potential 10CFR50.55(e) will be carried on the monthly status update as file 53564-K135. The Final Report or any significant new information will be submitted by separate correspondence.
