What is your present job with Duke Power Company?

I am currently the Powerhouse Mechanic Supervisor in Reactor Building 42 at the Catawba Nuclear Station.

Summarize your experience and qualifications.

A.

Prior to starting work for Duke Power Company, I spent approximately 11 years working in jobs associated with.

welding, such as pipe fitter, welder, welding inspector, and pipe foreman.

During this time my i

employers included the U.S. Army, Petroleum Engineering l

Co., Yeargen Construction Company, and Daniel g-Construction Company.

In 1977 I was hired.by Duke * "

c Power Company to work at the Catawba Nuclear Station as i

the welding inspector concerns which were expressed in late 1981/early 1982?

A.

No.

Q.

Have you ever been involved in a harassment proceeding regarding a welding inspector?

A.

Yes, I have been involved in one such proceeding.

In 1981 Larry Jackson, a QA welding inspector, filed a harassment charge against me.

What activity gave rise to the incident?

A.

Mr. Jackson had questioned the use of a certain grinding disk.

Resolution of Mr.-Jackson's concerns regarding the grinding disk occurred outside the harassment investigation process.

As a result of Mr.

Jackson's concern, an NCI was prepared, and the pipe in~

question was tagged and eventually cut-out and s

replaced.

A.

Yes.

What was the result of the investigation?

After the investigation, it was determined that neither Mr. Jackson nor I conducted ourselves in'a professional manner, and we both received counselling regarding this matter.

Did the harassment incident ~ reflect a belief on your pa rt that the Catawba project is not being constructed safely?

No.

In your view, has the QA program been effective while you have worked at Catawba?

A.

Yes.

Are you aware of any deficiencies in construction'or in the QA program which would cause you to question whether Catawba is safely built?

A.

No.
