A. My name is Walter L. Sifford. My work address is Catawba Nuclear Station, P. O. Box 223, Clover, South Carolina, 29710.

Q. What is your present job with Duke Power Company?

i i A. I am currently a Welding Inspector Supervisor at the Catawba Nuclear Station.

Q. Summarize your experience and qualifications.

A. I have been in jobs associated with welding from 1957 until present. During this time, I have ccmpleted i numerous training courses in areas related to i welding, including union apprenticeship training i l

(ironwork), safety, welding and quality assurance. l l

companies. In 1972, I started working et Duke Power company's McGuire Nuclear Station. Shortly after starting work, I began training in welding quality assurance and in late 1972 transferred at McGuire to what was to become the Quality Assurance Department.

While in the Quality Assurance Department at McGuire,

- I worked as a welding inspector until approximately 1976 when I was prcmoted to the position of welding

! inspector supervisor. In June, 1983, I transferred to the Catawba Project as a quality assurance welding inspector supervisor.

O. Are you familiar with what is commonly referred to as  ;

. in late 1981/19827 A. I am somewhat aware of the general nature of these concerns. However, in that I was not at Catawba during this time, I was not involved with the concerns raised or their resolution. I was transferred to Catawba in June 1983, fi O. In your view, has the OA program been effective while you have worked as an inspector at Catawba?

Q. Is there anything else you would like to add to your testimony?

A. In my opinion, the quality of welding work on the Catawba project is superior and reflects the high standards set by Duke Power Company on this project.
