Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

In response.to IE Bulletin 84-02 concerning failures of GE Type HFA relays in use in Class 1E Safety Systems, please be advised that no relays of the type' described in this bulletin are in use in safety-relateT applications at Catawba Nuclear Station. Safety-related relays at Catawba are the Cutler Hammer type, of a vintage that is not considered to pose failure problems such as described in this bulletin.
