Piping Spool Piece
Dear Mr. Seidle:
This letter provides the final report concerning a piping spool piece.
This mattar was reported by Mr. Otto Maynard of Kansas Gas and Elec-tric Company (KG&E) to Mr. Mike Murphy of the Nuclear Regulatory Com-mission, Region IV, on May 25, 1983, by telephone.
During a reexamination of documentation by the Constructor, a discrepancy was found between the design's material specifications and the material specifications of an installed piping spool piece in the feedwater system.
This spool piece was installed to replace a valve which had been relocated in the system.
The designer's specifications require that SA-333, Grade 6 material be used for this installation. However, during the reexamination of doc-umentation for ASME N-5 data report preparation, it was discovered that the material heat number on the piping spool piece and on the Bill of l
Material corresponded to SA-106, Grade B. Material.
The designer has completed the evaluation of this piping spool piece and concluded that, had the discrepancy not been detected, the safety of the l
plant would not have been adversely affected. Therefore, this matter is l
not reportable under the requirements of 10CFR50.55(e). However, KG&E has already replaced the installed piping spool piece using a spool piece of SA-333, Grade 6 material.
