Chief. Midland Section U S Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region III 799 Roosevelt Road Glen Ellyn, IL 60137 HIDLAND ENERGY CENTER MIDLAND DOCKET NOS 50-329, 50-330 TURBINE ROLL Q RELIEF VALVE REMOVAL File: 0655, Bl.7.3, 0460.2 UFI: 51*09, 53*50*04 Serial: CSC-7572 99*08, 03200(S)
The purpose of this letter is to request your concurrence for the removal of six Q relief valves upstream of the main steam isolation valves. This removal is required to support the non-Q hydrostatic test program required prior to system turnover related to Turbine Roll. The removal of these valves is required to insure that steam or water does not enter the steam generators during testing activities while performing Turbine Roll.
The relief valves (2PSV 3207 A&B, 3208 A&B, 3209 A&B) have had the Quality Verification Program (QVP) activities performed on them and will be removed in accordance with a Construction Work Plan (CWP) once we obtain your concurrence.
The CWP will include the Quality Work Package (QWP) which covers the destatusing of the present PQCIR's and issuance of new PQCIR's for the reinstallation.
The storage of the relief valves will be performed in accordance with FPC-5.000 (Storage, Handling, and Maintenance of Permanent Plant Equipment and Materials).
The initial installation and removal of temporary plugs will be part of the hydrostatic test package. The plugs will be removed once the hydrostatic test is performed. A Contractor Work Request (CWR) will be written to cover the installation and removal of the plugs on subsequent Testing activities as well as being added to the master punchlist as a tracked item.
A prompt reply to this letter would be appreciated in order to support the hydrostatic activities scheduled to start on April 4, 1984.
